Albert Perez, who signs his work as “Tank,” was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was introduced to art at a young age and as he grew older, he developed a passion for comic books, initially copying his favorite heroes before teaching himself to draw freehand and invent original characters. For the past 17 years, Perez has been incarcerated while fighting a wrongful conviction, including 10 years in solitary confinement. Throughout this time, art has been a vital source of resilience and escape, allowing him to mentally transcend his circumstances through vivid scenes of dragons, aliens, and heroic fantasy.
