Glass Between Us is a powerful immersive artwork by Donna Isham that explores the fragile space between intimacy and distance. Both tender and electric, the painting considers the invisible barriers people build around themselves, the emotional glass that separates longing from connection, vulnerability from protection, and desire from understanding.
The composition moves between abstraction and figuration, with a haunting female presence emerging through veils of color, fractured lines, and sweeping gestures. Pale washes, luminous pinks, acid yellows, deep blacks, and traces of red create an atmosphere that feels intimate yet unsettled. Isham’s layered mark-making suggests both exposure and concealment, as if the figure is being revealed and obscured at the same time.
Activated through original animation and a commissioned musical score by Mark Isham, Glass Between Us becomes more than a painting — it becomes an immersive encounter. Light, movement, and sound deepen the emotional tension of the work, allowing the viewer to feel the push and pull between closeness and separation. The experience is atmospheric, reflective, and deeply human.
Glass Between Us is a striking contemporary artwork about connection in its most complex form: the need to be seen, the fear of being fully known, and the quiet distance that can exist even between people who long to reach one another.
